Jeweller and Sculptor

Originally from Argentina, and a Canopy Market mainstay, Luciana Morera has art and sculpture in her DNA. She boasts a famous artist – Miguel Viladrich, 1887-1956 – and a famous sculptor – Wilfredo Viladrich, 1923-1976 – in her lineage. Just looking at Luciana’s jewellery and sculpture one can sense a connection running from her forebears directly through Luciana’s hands and imagination.
An experimenter with material, she explores silver, brass and gold through the lost-wax process and vitreous enamel, and has recently branched out into larger sculptures in clay. An explorer and a striver, Luciana has a restless creative energy that must be expressed.
Freedom, love, play and movement, these qualities are immediately discerniblein her work. Her miniature, wearable jewellery sculptures – rings, earrings and pendants – are delightful and expressive. Anyone who knows me, knows I regularly wear a Morera Jewellery brooch on my lapel: a vitreous enamel disc sporting a small silver bird. (It’s visible in the picture in my opening letter.) For me, this brooch encapsulates freedom and I love it.
As a jeweller and a sculptor, Luciana has always felt that her work is not complete until it is united with the perfect recipient, a beautiful sentiment that epitomises Luciana as a person and as an artist.
Luciana’s work can be viewed most weekends at Canopy Market and can also be seen here: www.morera.co.uk
